I used a feature project to use my background in writing to explore new forms of web and publication design that is prominent in the conservation communications professions I am seeing. Typically, when I write, these go straight to editors and designers who work on the layout and photographs to create the final project. This was my opportunity to sit down and work through Adobe InDesign and really attempt to understand the workings to create a stylebook, and a compilation of research and feature pieces with layout and design elements created in the stylebook. InDesign is an extremely versatile program, yet there is a lot that goes into becoming familiar with the various tools and where they are located. This was a great experience to continue improving on my eye for design work, which will directly improve my competitiveness in the current job market.
