In 2025, I was invited to join members of Pacific Rivers to the Chehalis River and their partners from the Chehalis Tribe in western Washington. A new dam has been proposed to be built on the upper Chehalis watershed, threatening already imperiled runs of salmon and other migratory fish throughout the Chehalis River watershed. If built, this dam would be catastrophic to migratory fish recovery and mitigation efforts. The tribe is fighting tirelessly to prevent this from happening, and I was lucky enough to spend the day learning more about this issue and photographing this beautiful river.
